LG TV IPTV Buffering: Causes and Fixes

LG Smart TVs run webOS. Like Samsung, LG allocates limited RAM to third-party streaming apps, which makes them sensitive to network quality and app configuration.

Step-by-Step Fixes

1. Use Wired Ethernet

LG Smart TVs have a built-in Ethernet port. Connect a cable from your router to the TV.

A wired connection eliminates the most common source of IPTV buffering.

2. Reduce Channel Quality

Switch from 4K to 1080p versions of channels if available in your channel list. This reduces bandwidth demand from 25+ Mbps to around 15 Mbps.

3. Refresh Your Playlist

In Smart IPTV: Re-upload via siptv.app/mylist and trigger a refresh on the TV. In GSE Smart IPTV: Go to playlist settings and tap Refresh.

4. Run a Network Test on LG TV

Settings > All Settings > General > Network > Check the Internet Connection.

This confirms whether the TV itself has a good connection. If the test fails or shows low speeds, Wi-Fi is the issue.

5. Restart TV and Router

Turn off the LG TV at the power button (not remote standby). Restart your router. Wait 60 seconds and power everything back on.

LG's webOS keeps recently used apps in a background tray to speed up app switching, but on older sets (webOS 3.x/4.x, roughly 2016–2018 models) this can quietly eat into the limited RAM available to your IPTV app. Press the Home button, open the recent apps row, and swipe up on anything you're not using — this frees memory the same way force-closing an app does on a phone.

LG's Magic Remote uses a pointer instead of a standard D-pad. Some IPTV apps (GSE Smart IPTV in particular) render their channel grid for D-pad navigation and can feel laggy or unresponsive with the pointer active — press the wheel/OK button to switch the Magic Remote into pointer-off, D-pad mode, which often makes menu navigation noticeably smoother even when playback itself is fine.

If your LG TV recently installed a webOS system update, it's worth re-checking your network settings afterward — LG updates occasionally reset Wi-Fi to the 2.4 GHz band or clear a saved 5 GHz preference, which shows up as buffering that started "for no reason" right after an update.

Why does GSE Smart IPTV crash or freeze on my older LG TV? Older webOS versions (3.x and earlier, roughly pre-2018 models) allocate less RAM to third-party apps. If GSE is unstable, try Smart IPTV instead — it's generally lighter on older LG hardware — and keep your channel list to Xtream Codes rather than a very large M3U file, since webOS has to parse the whole list into memory on load.

Should I use the LG Content Store version of my IPTV app or sideload one? Always use the version from the LG Content Store when available. LG's app store builds are tested against that specific webOS version, while sideloaded IPTV apps on LG TVs are far less common and not officially supported by most players.
